“GOOSEBUMPS” BY IRENA KALICKA ON THE BUS STOPS IN KALISZ

Irena Kalicka, a photograph from the series Goosebumps, 2014

The heroes put tulle and veils on their heads and change themselves into dynamic park statues. Standing with their hairy legs, their sneakers adopt the function of a pedestal. […] These such cover-ups or rather masquerades identify the work as Irena Kalicka’s. This time her band of tricksters wear white dresses, dresses with veils and dresses with trains. These are further away from the usual tears of despair and more towards hooligan gestures. Kalicka’s Clowns are here in a more formalized environment that constrains their movements and limits their expression. This new cycle of work by the artist has moved into the world of wedding photography, to the studio and into the open air, onto a neutral background and natural surroundings; even onto abstract white that bleaches out the figure.
