“Arirang” directed by Kim Ki-duk and Kamil Guenatri’s performance – “Moretti” – 22.10.2015, 18:00

As part of the MOVING PICTURES MOVING PIECES series we will present Arirang (2011) by Kim Ki-duk.

Our guest of the evening is an Algierian artist – Kamil Guenatri who will present his performance.

The work by Kamil Guenatri in confrontation with the Kim Ki-duk’s movie tell a story about the exploring of the lack, gaining strength from inability and the creative potential of failure. They ask questions about the boundary between health and disease, private life and artistic activity.

Kim Ki-duk is a South Korean filmmaker, known for movies such as Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter… and Spring or Dream. His films have received many distinctions in the festival circuit, making him one of the most important contemporary Asian film directors. Arirang addresses a personal crisis he went through, sparked by an incident during the filming of his previous film, where the lead actress nearly died by hanging. The film premiered in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, and won the top award for best film.

I created “Arirang” because i wanted to confess. But i made an oddity – neither a document, nor a movie.
(Kim Ki-duk)

Kamil Guenatri is an Algierian performer who lives and works in Toulouse (France). His work focuses on the exploration of his body and mental limits. The artist writes these acts in poetic or conceptual forms, usually using his disability as a metaphor to express “the impossibility”.

This body “sick” may reflect our human and social conflicts; I use it as a space of “meaning” and a confrontation of these paradoxes – says the artist about his work.

In Kalisz he will perform the piece entitled Moretti.
